Jo offers specific structured drawing courses for beginner, intermediate and advanced students. Each course series lasts *8-weeks, with one weekly 3 hour in-person session in the Atelier as well as continued development assignments to do on your own time between sessions.

She will teach you specific drawing skills needed to create representational art.

These include topics like use of materials, line and composition, linear and atmospheric perspective, learning tonal values and how to apply all of those skills together to line drawings in order to achieve the illusion of three dimensions. You will also learn:

  • Inductive and reductive drawing

  • Drawing simple objects from life with intentional lighting

  • Drawing and rendering full skeleton [from illustrations and life]

  • Basic muscle structure [from illustration]

  • Drawing the figure [from illustrations and work photos]

  • Life drawing with specific lessons in posing and lighting models

A normal 3 hour session entails:

  • Work station set-up

  • Demo from Jo relevant to topics covered in that session

  • Drawing time along with instructor

  • Group critique and feedback

  • Review of take home exercises for the week [normally repetition of skills learned in that session or inspiration gathering for upcoming class]

* Jo provides personalized 1:1 feedback and customized adjustments based on individual skillsets, so while 8 weeks is a baseline, each student or class may move at a different pace.
